Those responsible for contaminating South African land will pay, Environmental Affairs Minister Buyelwa Sonjica said on Wednesday.
"We have taken the view that the cost of reducing pollution must be shared between people who are responsible for waste: the polluters," she told a waste management conference in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.

"Let us pray that our esteemed and honourable ministers apply this logic to their stake-holdings in coal mines and fossil fuel power station turbine manufacturers so that they can clean up their act at the same time that they help us to clean up our act.
